We’d Be Happy, Won’t We?
Bee from Buckle N Boots has a brilliantly catchy new single out today!
Bee Ounsworth from Buckle N Boots has a fresh new banger out today. I've been listening for weeks and I can say that not only does it grab you instantly, it will hang around in your head afterwards. Of the country artists working today, this track reminds me most of Kimberly Kelly's Modern Day Woman, a track I loved reviewing last year and still listen to.
I’ve got a long line of lists
That don’t get any shorter
No time on my hands
To make plans with my daughter
A number of the country stars I have been writing about have started families in the last year. Kimberly of course, but also Emily Zeck. Lera Lynn is currently navigating being a touring artist with motherhood. It sounds like the perfect match: songwriting is a home-based job, if you want it to be, and it's inexpensive to build a home set-up to record yourself. There really is a lot you can do without leaving home... but then comes the live show and touring issues. Being a live musician is still predominantly a night-time job, and as we all know that bed-time is a key time of day for mothers and babies.
Perhaps these thoughts and pressures are what led Bee to write this week's single, We'd Be Happy, Won't We? She's invented the hashtag #immamama to chronicle her experiences on social media.
I'm a jack of all trades
And a master of none
I'm the best at being busy
And won't rest till it's done
Bee Ounsworth has a strong, classic country voice. She is constantly touring and you can catch her on 16th May at Lichfield Arts. As she's based in Surrey it is easiest to catch her in the south of England.

Coz, my clock keeps on tickin’
My bills keep on stackin’
And I’m missing the life
With my kids and I’m laggin’
When there’s love in the room
I've got to know and love Bee's music over the last year, not least because she was one of the first to show an interest in my book on 1920s gangsters. She might be reaching the end of the toughest period of motherhood (though some say that their twenties are a challenge too) but I feel like she understands her music better than ever.
Bee is an all-out country act who has played at the Brands Hatch country festival American Speedfest as well as Country on the Coast. She hosts a weekly show on local Surrey radio. Music is an enormous part of her life and you can also catch her fairly regularly at Lil' Nashville, Chiswick's focal point for the country music scene on my side of London. I believe she was seen recently on the red carpet at the Paramount+ premiere of Dutton Ranch, an upcoming spin-off from Yellowstone.
You can follow Bee Ounsworth and Buckle N Boots on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and on their own website with all the links to music, tour dates and merch, including the most endearing stuffed puppy!
